In 2004, the year of 60 years commemoration of operation Market Garden, the re-enactment group 101AB was founded as a new section of Living History Group Holland. Later this section was named “US-Airborne” to make room for 101AB as well for 82AB.
The founders René van Oirschot and Carli Nelissen discovered that the efforts of 101AB-501PIR did not receive the attention that they earned due to their WW2 actions.
From that moment on they paid special attention to 501PIR by forming the “klondikes” platoon. This platoon has a special attention for in 501PIR history in Holland but also for their campaigns in Normandy and Bastogne .

The “klondikes” got involved in commemorations at the Windmill in Eerde which played a special roll in the “corridor” battles close to “hell’s highway” during operation Market Garden. Several events have been organized to present living history to public and youth. By this way we are able to pass history to our next generation and stand still by the victims WW2 caused under civilians and military.
They paid the toll for todays freedom and re-enactment is one of the links to remembrance.

In the passed years we have met many veterans whom we build a good relationship with. Not only for friendship but even more to hear their story’s. Story’s that will fade away in the future if not noticed and passed on. These very warm contacts have led to a more frequent visit of veterans to the battle grounds of  501 PIR. “It’s our second home” are the words that we hear from them. And we assure that they are home.
